At the beginning of every year, we all feel a little extra push to be our best selves. Whether we wish to eat cleaner or exercise more, this is the perfect time to set the tone for the rest of 2024. Today, we are joined by fitness trainer and diet expert Jet Kotee for some clean-eating inspo. 

What diet trends are you predicting for 2024?

Current diet trends that I think will take over 2024 include artificial intelligence (AI) created diet regimes, the Mediterranean diet, and more varied plant-based protein options.

Are there popular diets out right now? What are they?

Intermittent fasting, keto, gluten-free, and plant-based diets are some popular diet trends that have been dominating the scene over the last several years.

Are there any diets you specifically recommend or endorse?

One diet I highly recommend is the “Mediterranean-style” diet. The Mediterranean diet is characterized by the consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish and seafood, eggs, poultry, and healthy fats such as avocado or olive oil combined with minimal dairy. This diet structure has great health benefits that include advanced heart health.

What advice would you give to someone looking to go on a diet?

The best advice I’d give to someone seeking to begin their diet regime is to study your body! Every individual’s body operates differently depending on various factors such as genetics, fitness history, current fitness and nutritional habits, etc. As a result, it’s important to analyze which diets are best suited for YOU. Reaching out for insight from a nutritionist can also aid in finding the most effective diet to follow.

So, let’s talk about the “Mediterranean style” diet that Jet recommends. The diet heavily focuses on the region’s plants, traditional flavors, and cooking methods. It is one of the healthiest eating plans dieticians recommend, as it’s linked with lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. It also encourages sharing meals with family and friends, exercising regularly, and enjoying wine in moderation (sign me up!).
