I’m still emotionally recovering from what I saw on the 2025 American Music Awards red carpet. Let me set the scene: Picture it. Las Vegas. Lights, music, celebs everywhere. Then out of nowhere—like a jump scare—Heidi Montag hits the carpet in a sparkly blue bodysuit and the most tragic wig I’ve seen in recent pop culture history. (Yes, even worse than that raggedy headpiece in the Lifetime biopic “The Brittany Murphy Story”).
It was a short, blunt, blonde bob that looked like it came free with a “Barbie Doing a Walk of Shame” costume. The kind of synthetic situation that makes you say, “Who on her team let this happen?” It looked like it was slapped on in the back of a rideshare on the Vegas Strip – with no light, no mirror, and no f**ks given.
People are calling it a drag wig, but please don’t do that to the girls. I’ve seen queens lay clearance wigs with $10 and a dream that look ten times better than whatever that was on Heidi’s head. This wig wasn’t plucked, blended, or even fit to be seen in public.
Now, some thought the sparkly blue corset and matching pants (by The Blonds) were “cute.” But paired with that wig? It gave off-the-clock Las Vegas magician’s assistant.
And social media wasted no time:
“That wig from Party City, which is now closed.”
“Heidi’s been serving with her real hair—why did she do this?”
“She looks great minus that thing on her head.”
“Girl, you have money for better wigs.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Heidi explained, “We just thought, ‘Switch it up a little bit,’ and keep it fresh.” Really, girl? Is that what we’re calling it—“fresh”? That unit was giving little old lady T’s.
And let’s be clear: I better not hear none of y’all come for a single Tyler Perry wig ever again after witnessing that! At least Shemar Moore’s piece looked like they tried. Heidi’s was giving plotless, purposeless, and painful to watch.
Thankfully, Heidi teased that her long hair would return the next day “like magic.” And you know what? We love magic—especially when it makes a Spirit Halloween wig disappear.
