What is the V-Light Hair Extension Technique?

According to Towanna Dunn, “V-Light hair extensions have transformed our approach to enhancing thinning hair, offering lightweight solutions for a comfortable, natural feel”. V-Light hair extensions offer a seamless blend with natural locks for undetectable results. What truly sets this technique apart is its versatility, offering two application methods to cater to diverse hair needs. Dunn continues that, “the unique V-shaped tape design ensures easy blending with natural hair, creating a seamless and undetectable quick look. The liquid adhesive enables versatile use of any hair extension and allows for precise application near the crown and hairline”.

Incentive Behind Adoption

Inspiration often strikes from necessity, and Dunn’s decision to adopt the V-Light technique was no different. With clients seeking solutions for increasingly fine hair textures, Dunn recognized the need for a technique that offers both efficacy and comfort. “Clients are coming in with hair that is [thinner] than ever, and the need for something a little bit closer to the crown is in demand. This product meets their needs” says Dunn. The V-Light technique emerged as the perfect solution for clients while offering a touch of innovation.

Benefits and Advantages

Compared to traditional extension methods, the V-Light technique boasts several advantages. The flat attachment ensures a seamless blend, while the liquid adhesive allows for precise application near the crown and hairline. One notable benefit is the ability to reuse old extensions, offering a cost-effective solution for clients. Dunn explains, “you can also use your old hair extensions, which is a super saver for the client.”

Application Process

Curious about the application process? Towanna provides a step-by-step guide, emphasizing precision and attention to detail.  For the liquid application, Dunn says, “after sectioning the clients, hair you are going to grab the appropriate amount of raw hair extensions. When I say raw, I mean hair that does not have any attachment just free strands. Hold it about a quarter of an inch from the scalp, so the adhesive does not get onto the client’s skin. From there, you’re going to smooth the hair down and shine the UV light onto the attachment area for 10 seconds. There is a protective plexiglass orange card that comes with the ray tool. That is to protect the stylus’ eyes from constant exposure to the light. I highly recommend using it every time.”

As for the tape in UV application, Dunn advises, “place the holder underneath the section of hair you’re going to attach it to. And then simply shine the UV light onto it for about 10 seconds”.

Suitability and Maintenance

While suitable for all hair types, the V-Light technique shines brightest for individuals with thin or short hair. As for maintenance, Dunn recommends following standard at-home care instructions, with a few precautions to ensure longevity and durability. V-Light extensions need to be replaced every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the client’s natural growth.

However, if you’re a swimmer, this method may not be for you. Towanna advises “you want to avoid constant exposure to sea water and chlorine for long durations of time. Quick dips in and out of the pool is OK, deep-sea diving not so much. You also want to be sure that you are not doing any high temperature oil treatments on the hair while this is in.  Constant exposure to high heat, oils and seawater can corrode the attachment and cause them to slip.”

Versatility and Styling

Clients often wonder about styling options with V-Light extensions. Dunn assures that soft ponytails and updos are fair game, with the caveat of maintaining natural fall for optimal results. Embracing different looks while prioritizing hair health is key to enjoying the versatility of V-Light extensions.

Considerations and Drawbacks

A key factor to consider with this technique is its longevity. Dunn explains, “the disadvantage is that it doesn’t last as long [as other extension methods] because it is a smaller attachment area.”

As with any hair extension technique, clients should be aware of potential considerations. While rare, allergic reactions may occur, emphasizing the importance of patch tests for sensitive clients. Additionally, adherence to maintenance protocols and regular salon appointments is essential for minimizing concerns.

Affordability

I know this is what you’ve been waiting for! The first thing I wanted to know when I saw V-Light was how much they cost. Dunn explains that pricing typically aligns with other extension services, ranging from $150  to $400 per hour, excluding the cost of hair. So, if you want to try this extension technique, be prepared to drop a bag!

The V-Light Technology Hair Extensions System isn’t just a trend, it’s a transformative journey for thinning tresses.  V-Light extensions offer a seamless solution that’s as versatile as it is stunning. I would love to know if any of you would consider trying this technique. Drop a line in the comments section.
