The Best Looks From the 2024 Met Gala

It’s time for one of fashion’s most famous events of the year…the Met Gala! Regarded as one of the most prestigious and glamorous fashion events, the Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala that is held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Every year in New York City, guests are expected to dress according to that year’s theme, usually wearing haute couture.

The 2024 Met Gala theme was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by the J.G. Ballard short story of the same name. Ultimately, this theme is about fleeting beauty, drawing from the life cycle of a garden and how time continues to pass no matter what. Of course, fashion’s biggest night never disappoints, but there are always the few who stand out particularly more than others. Here are some of the best looks from the 2024 Met Gala.

Zendaya

As this year’s co-chair, it’s no surprise that Zendaya is one of the best-dressed celebrities on the carpet. She served not one, but two looks! The Challengers star’s first look was a custom green and blue gown from Maison Margiela, designed by John Galliano, featuring painted metallic details and a drape layered with organza. She accessorized the look with a hat and veil. Zendaya’s second look was also designed by Galliano, though this one was an archival gown from Galliano’s first haute-couture collection for Givenchy in 1996. A dress that had never before been worn on a red carpet, Zendaya’s second look was a black gown and a big floral headpiece.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid‘s Thom Browne look will go down in history as one of the best looks to encapsulate this year’s Met Gala dress code! Dressed in an off-the-shoulder corset dress and layered with 3D yellow roses and black trimming, this look was hand-crafted by Browne’s team. A group of more than 70 artisans worked on Hadid’s dress and spent over 13,500 hours embroidering and decorating the dress by hand.

Colman Domingo

Colman Domingo uniquely paid tribute to late actor Chadwick Boseman and journalist André Leon Tally by wearing a white cape to the carpet as the fallen stars had done in previous years. Making his Met Gala debut this year, Domingo’s cape was paired with an oversized suit designed by Willy Chavarría, diamond earrings, silver statement rings, and right on theme with a bouquet of white flowers.

Cardi B

Cardi B has always delivered on the Met Gala red carpet, and this year was no exception! Her gown was designed by new emerging designer Windowsen, known for its futuristic and avant-garde designs. Cardi presented as a gothic flower, donning one of the largest dresses to ever walk the Met Gala carpet with her many layers of tulle. To match her dress, Cardi wore a beehive-style headpiece and huge green jewels.

Emma Chamberlain

Returning for her fourth year in a row, Emma Chamberlain made a dramatic entrance in a custom Jean Paul Gaultier. Described as a dress that is “decaying,” Chamberlain’s look featured a strapless corseted bodice with lace tendrils wrapping up and around her arms and a long tulle train trailing behind her. She accessorized the look with diamonds around her neck and in her ears and kept her hair up in a slicked-back bun.
