The sidewalks of Abolitionist Place in Downtown Brooklyn transformed into a dazzling runway, showcasing the incredible talents of young models from Fashion Camp 360. This inaugural event celebrated a fabulous collection from Primark, highlighting the creativity and individuality of Brooklyn’s youth while fostering a sense of community.
Fashion Camp 360 empowers kids aged 7 to 18 to explore various aspects of the fashion industry. The participants strutted down the runway, embodying the motto “Reimagine Yourself.” Each model had the chance to pull together their self-styled outfits, representing a diverse array of personal styles that truly reflected their unique personalities.
My company, Major Face, was at the heart of this show, providing the hair and makeup for all the models. Being the key Makeup Artist and Hairstylist for this incredible show was an honor. We were so grateful to our hair sponsor, The Beachwaver, for their generous support. Their innovative styling tools allowed us to create effortlessly chic waves and polished updos that perfectly complemented the youthful looks.
For the makeup, we teamed up with Pacifica, our makeup sponsor, who provided fabulous vegan and cruelty-free products. The girls’ fresh, glowing skin was paired with a nude lip, highlighting their natural beauty. The makeup was light and airy, capturing the youthful essence of the event.
The hairstyles showcased a delightful mix of styles, including chic updos, playful half-up and half-down looks, and effortless waves, all designed to enhance the models’ outfits while allowing their unique personalities to shine. We embraced a simple aesthetic for the young men, ensuring their skin was clear and matte to highlight their features. Instead of altering their haircuts, we focused on enhancing their natural looks, allowing their confidence to take center stage.
The success of this show was a testament to the collaboration between various community partners, including BKLYN ROCKS!, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, and the NYPD Community Center. With Primark as the clothing sponsor, the kids could choose their looks, resulting in 32 fabulous outfits that reflected their unique styles.
The event director orchestrated an inspiring atmosphere, providing the young models with insights into the fashion industry beyond just clothing design. This experience showcased their talent and opened their eyes to the endless possibilities within the fashion world.
As the crowd cheered, it was evident that the Fashion Camp 360 participants were more than just models; they were confident young individuals seizing an incredible opportunity. The positive feedback from parents and spectators reflected the pride everyone felt in the achievements of these talented youths.
With this inaugural show, Fashion Camp 360 highlighted young talent and provided a platform for creativity and expression, promoting a strong sense of community. It was a day filled with laughter, pride, and a sense of accomplishment that resonated throughout the crowd.
As we look forward, the impact of events like this will continue to inspire and uplift Brooklyn’s youth, proving that the possibilities are truly endless when communities come together. Here’s to more shows, creativity, and, most importantly, more shining moments for our young fashionistas!
XOXO,
Your Fashion Bestie
