Gloves Off, Corks Popped: Troy Amos Ross Steps Into the Wine Game

Have you ever wondered what happens when a Boxer decides to hang up his gloves? Well, in the case of two-time Olympian, Cruiserweight champ, and Boxing Hall of Famer, Troy Amos Ross, he swapped uppercuts for uncorking and launched his wine, Gloves Off Rosé. “I wanted to leave a legacy outside the ring,” Ross shared at the U.S. debut of his wine, hosted fittingly at Hudson Boxing in TriBeCa. “I’ve been giving back by training young fighters, but I wanted to leave something on the shelf,” and he did just that… literally.

The event was cleverly named Sip & Box and wasn’t your average wine tasting. First, Ross led guests through a 45-minute cardio-heavy boxing class (yes, before the wine). TMI: I finally dusted off and broke in the Everlast gloves I’ve owned for years… and proceeded to sweat my edges out. But it was fun, empowering, and a reminder that boxing, much like life, is all about pushing yourself.

After class, we ditched the gloves, grabbed our glasses, and toasted to hard work, legacy, and of course, great wine. Gloves Off Rosé is a crisp, flavourful rosé with fewer calories than your average bottle, so basically, post-workout approved. It opens with the fresh aroma of fruit salad: think tropical fruits, strawberries, candied apple, with hints of peach and plum. One sip delivers a tropical sunset moment with banana, starfruit, citrus, peach, plum, and strawberry all making an appearance. It’s soft, refined, with just enough body from its Select Late Harvest Cabernet to balance acidity and sweetness.

Ross, a proud Toronto native now living in Brampton, isn’t exactly trying to be a wine snob. “I’m not aggressive outside the ring,” he laughed. “I think this rosé suits me. It’s smooth, easy, a little bit of everything.” More than just a wine, Gloves Off is a celebration of hard work, accomplishments, and life beyond the fight. “Whether it’s boxing, school, your job, when you hit a milestone, you’ve got to celebrate,” Ross said.
