On Saturday, September 13, Albright College, a liberal arts college in Reading, Pennsylvania, held a 5 Designer Show in Midtown, Manhattan. Five young designers showcased their collections—all had distinct styles, colors, and textures. Read on to hear more about them.
Salem Herr
Inspired by Japanese subcultures, cosplay, and fantasy worlds, Salem Herr used couture construction to create voluminous pieces that emulated Japanese characters. Shimmery fabrics were reminiscent of jellyfish, and the bright colors made it seem like the models were popping straight out of a film. From babydoll dresses to ballerina bustiers, this collection demonstrated how costume and character can be perfectly intertwined.

Skylar Viggiano
This year’s Albright event showcased Skylar Viggiano’s debut collection, entitled “Jungle Fever.” Inspired by 1980s Manhattan streetwear, Viggiano used vibrant reds, leopard print, and faux fur to create the ultimate urban chic. The cityscape and its people are perfectly emulated in skin-tight pants, fur-lined coats, and leather all around.

Julie Duris
Julie Duris’ collection was inspired by none other than My Little Pony, a childhood classic. To encapsulate the essence of these iconic characters and their shows, Duris used lighter pinks and blues and several satin fabrics. Different layers of fabric fell gently around the models, creating a fantastical feel.

Alyssa Mask
Inspired by Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, Alyssa Mask used dark colors and examined the transition between good and evil through the lens of fashion. Standouts included jackets with wings sewn on them, along with several avant-garde pieces that featured feathers and resin.

Adam Moyer
Hummingbirds were something that Adam Moyer referenced throughout his collection, which can clearly be seen in the iridescence of the fabrics and the shimmering colors. Moyer gracefully bridges nature and fashion with hues of green, while the flowing fabrics create a whimsical vibe.
