Inside the Skin Firming Event We Didn’t Know We Needed

Cetaphil just dropped the Skin Activator collection, and it promises to make your skin happy, hydrated, and firm. The line has two creams (one for your face, neck, and chest, and one for your body), plus a lightweight lotion. Mariska Hargitay, star of Law & Order and all-around boss babe, is the face of the collection. She’s the perfect vibe: confident, authentic, and all about self-care.

We attended the Cetaphil Skin Activator product launch event in Soho, and the celebration was an experience in itself. Guests were welcomed into a chic, immersive space where we could re-create photos from Mariska’s campaign with Cetaphil, mingle, and soak in the atmosphere. There was also a lively presentation with Mariska Hargitay herself, where she spoke about her connection to the brand and the importance of taking care of your skin with confidence and authenticity. As if that wasn’t enough, we were treated to luxe and thoughtful goodies – like engraved guashas and custom forever bracelets – that made the night feel so special and memorable.

Amidst all the excitement, we caught up with Cetaphil dermatologist, Dr. Glynis Albon, to get the lowdown on “firming.” Her tip? “Firm skin can be tested with a pinch. If it lifts easily, it means your collagen or elastic components are breaking down.” Translation: firming is about keeping your skin strong, bouncy, and supple from the inside out.

The magic in the Skin Activator line comes from mandelic acid and Centella Asiatica. Dr. Albon explains, “These two together stimulate the skin, prepare the barrier, and give antimicrobial and antioxidant benefits. They also wake up the sleeper cells to improve the surface of your skin.” Clinical trials show firmer hands and thighs after just one month. So yes, the results are real. Even with all that firming power, the products feel light and fresh. “Moisture is not just from the cream,” Dr. Albon says. “Mandelic acid exfoliates and helps create a new barrier that locks in hydration. It’s about feeling firm and hydrated at the same time.”

But skincare isn’t just about the products. Lifestyle matters too. Dr. Albon breaks it down, “Your skin looks as good as the way you treat it. Genetics is only about 10 percent. The rest is what you eat, how you sleep, your hormones, and your environment. Skin care is one piece of the puzzle.” So even though the Skin Activator line gives incredible results, don’t think you can just go out binge drinking, chain-smoking, and expect your skin to be snatched. You’ve got to put in a little effort, too.

The line works for mature skin but is also perfect for preventive care. “It balances your pH and repairs your barrier. Using gentle, barrier-supportive products early helps protect your skin over time,” she says. She warns against harsh products at a young age because they can damage your skin barrier and cause irritation.

When asked why Cetaphil chose Mariska Hargita, Dr. Albon says, “She’s a powerful woman who takes care of herself. I live in Hollywood, so I see what it looks like when people go overboard with procedures, and Mariska is not like that. She values safety and gentle care. She likes products that are fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, easy to use, and not ridiculously priced. That really matters.”

Her final advice is simple and solid: “Start caring for your skin early, think about what you put in and on your body, and don’t overdo the treatments. Consistency is key.”
