These days, many brands are gradually venturing into the realm of organic products. Why is this happening? Because people have become aware that our skin is increasingly sensitive to the chemicals we are exposed to as well as those we apply to our skin. As someone with sensitive skin, I have always prioritized products that are good for my skin’s health over those that are simply high in quality. Consequently, I have often ended up using products that did not have long-lasting effects, or tended to smudge during the day.
Today, combining health and quality is a mission for some brands that I believe is still underrated. As a result, I’ve compiled a list of the best products from reputable premium brands and underappreciated organic labels that have managed to effectively blend these two important elements when looking for skincare.
How did I know they were healthy? Years of study, experimentation and Yuka. For years, this app has been my go-to. In the case of cosmetics, food, and other products, simply scan the barcode and all the ingredients will appear on your screen. Then, by evaluating how each chemical in the ingredient list affects us as humans, Yuka will assign the product an overall score.
And believe me, it is well made. There are no ads or any interference from brands, as it is independently financed. It remains unbiased and will uncover any endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, allergies or irritants, regardless of the brand’s reputation. Sometimes there are big surprises when extremely well-known beauty companies are exposed for putting harmful chemicals into their skincare products.
This is why I am here to provide you with organic alternatives if you want to protect your health, have sensitive skin, or just wish to go greener.
For Foundation:
May I offer you a French Label? SO BIO (by Lea Nature) has been my best discovery so far.
I do not like wearing foundation often, or the feeling of having a lot of products on my skin. I’m not a fan of heavy makeup, and my goal is not to cover my freckles. Teint Divin foundation is designed for an easy wear and light coverage. Rated 90/100, or Excellent, by Yuka, it effortlessly covers my skin with a subtle natural tint.
What sets it apart is its ability to provide hydration without feeling heavy thanks to aloe vera and natural pigments in its formulation. My shade is 10 Rose Ivory. When applied, the product lasts long and doesn’t budge during the day. The product has an organic label certification and has been tested on sensitive skin by dermatologists. Teint Divin has become a great addition to my makeup routine, and I highly recommend it to others seeking a flawless, lightweight foundation.
Despite being produced in France, you can still purchase it here.
The only downside: this brand is not yet very inclusive in terms of shades, unfortunately.
Another alternative is: the Clean Glowing Skin Foundation: within the SClean line from Sephora. It receives an excellent rating of 90/100 on Yuka. This foundation is available in 20 different shades, offering a wide spectrum of skin tones from neutral and pink to golden and brown.
In its formula, you’ll find vitamin C and brightening ingredients, which are intended to give a subtle glow. Personally, I didn’t notice a significant glow. I believe this foundation provides medium coverage, making it slightly heavier on the skin. However, I find the finish, especially considering the price and its healthy composition, to be excellent. It absorbs well and blends beautifully.
If you’re seeking more substantial coverage, this option may be the right fit for you.
In case it’s currently out of stock, you can still purchase it through this link.
For Concealer:
I’ve got two great options for you, and even though they are a bit pricier, they are worth it in terms of coverage, feel, absorption, blend, and finish. Both of these brands have a lot of products that are healthy and high-quality, so check them out. Both concealers scored an excellent 90/100 rating on Yuka, and their ingredients are impressive. They are allergy-tested, dermatologically-tested, and won’t irritate your skin.
First, there’s the True Skin Serum Concealer by Ilia. It’s designed like a serum and contains vitamin C and albizia julibrissin bark extract, which protects you from free radicals and environmental stressors while nourishing it. They offer 20 shades, each catering to different undertones like warm, cool, or golden tones.
Then, we have the Revealer Concealer by Kosas, which comes in 28 shades. You can find your perfect one based on undertones like peach, olive, or golden. This concealer is packed with caffeine, pink algae, arnica, provitamin B5, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. It not only provides good medium coverage but should also brighten, sooth, and plump your skin over time.
For a Final Touch (Setting Spray)
I highly recommend the Blue Light Filter Mist by Ilia, which scores an impressive 93/100 on Yuka. I’ve already shared some positive notes about this brand, but this setting spray is particularly light on the skin, dries quickly, and provides hydration while also shielding you from from daily pollution and the potentially harmful blue light emitted by screens. It contains natural ingredients that deeply hydrate and refresh while locking your makeup in place.
In the meantime, you can rest assured that I’m just getting started — I have plenty more products to introduce to you. So don’t forget to check out the second and third parts of my article for a complete organic makeup look!
