After taking a hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic, Phillip Lim is returning to New York Fashion Week this September with his brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim. After three years of informal shows, including his immersive art and fashion gallery exhibit entitled, “A New York City Vibration” during February’s New York Fashion Week, Lim offered a “palette cleanser” with his recent resort collection.
Described as “the uniform of the art gallerist”, Lim takes casual, ready-to-wear clothes and transforms them into high fashion. Like his most recent collections, he continues using khakis and blues, along with denim and poplin fabrics. With his resort collection, Lim indeed encapsulates how an art gallerist might turn a thrifted piece of clothing into a cohesive look.
Lim’s last Fashion Week appearance before this upcoming September was in Fall 2019 to debut his Spring 2020 ready-to-wear collection. In it, Lim veered away from tradition and experimented with different cuts, demonstrating his ability to push the boundaries in a tasteful way. Similar to his resort collection that year, the looks were made up of organic and recycled fabrics.
Lim has previously been a big proponent of sustainability within fashion. It would be great to see that within his new collection, as well as some extended motifs from his resort collection. Let’s hope that Lim continues to think outside the box and bring his unique creativity to Fall 2023 New York Fashion Week.
XOXO,
