Your Holiday countdown: 10 Movies to watch during the Holidays

As the holiday season approaches, we often seek feel-good movies that get us in the festive mood. To satisfy this desire, I’ve assembled a diverse selection of movies that blend comedy, drama, romance, and heartwarming lessons, offering the perfect binge-watching lineup!

1. The Holiday (2006)

This movie is an all-time favorite of mine. It follows the journey of two women, portrayed by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, who’ve had their share of romantic misfortunes and decide to take a much-needed break. They decide to swap homes for the holidays, one residing in sunny LA, and the other in a charming English village. Their adventure takes unexpected turns, leading to newfound romances and the forging of great friendships. For an added treat, enjoy some of Jude Law’s charm!

You can find it on Amazon

2. While You Were Sleeping (1995)

Lucy (portrayed by the beautiful Sandra Bullock), a lonely booth transit operator, saves a man from an accident, but he falls into a coma. Mistakenly identified as his fiancée by his family, she goes along with the charade. As she spends time with his family, she forms unexpected bonds and even starts falling for his brother. This heartwarming romantic comedy explores the complexities of love, family, and second chances.

Available on Disney.

3. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

Feeling like luck isn’t on your side? Let me assure you, that spending time with Bridget will lift your spirits! As she sets her New Year’s resolutions and transforms her life (into a delightful mess) within the pages of her diary, you’ll realize that self-improvement is full of unexpected twists. With a blend of clumsiness, messy romances, and wrong choices, Bridget will become your trusted companion during the holiday season.

Available on Netflix.

4. You’ve Got Mail (1998)

This charming romantic comedy perfectly reflects the dynamics of modern life, where texting often takes precedence over face-to-face interaction. The film tells the story of two business rivals, Joe and Kathleen played by Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, who engage in anonymous online conversations. They grow fond of one another, and the film serves as evidence that especially during the holiday season, love stories can manifest in various and unexpected ways.

Available on Amazon.

5. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

A classic piece for our young fashion besties with big dreams. Andy (portrayed by the lovely Anne Hathaway) takes her first steps into the New York fashion scene like a vulnerable duckling. With little prior knowledge, you’ll witness her journey of growth, transformation, and the occasional stumbling in this relentless industry. This comedy-drama is the perfect choice for a cozy night at home, making you contemplate the delicate balance between work and social life.

You can find it on Amazon or Disney.

6. Love Actually (2003)

Craving a dose of romance? This timeless holiday romantic comedy weaves together a dozen different stories, all centered around the theme of love. It’s the ideal heartwarming film that delves into various kinds of relationships, challenges, and temptations, all set against the backdrop of the Christmas season.

Available on Netflix.

7. Last Holiday (2006)

This movie is one of my ultimate favorite comedies to watch around the Holidays. Georgia (portrayed by Queen Latifah) receives a diagnosis for a terminal illness. In response, she embarks on a journey to Europe to make the most of her remaining time, living out everyone’s dreams, all while holding out our hope for a Christmas miracle.

You can find it on Netflix.

8. The Best Man Holiday (2013)

After 15 years, a group of college friends reunite during the Holidays. And let me tell you, this film excels at combining comedy, drama, and romance, making it a top choice to avoid boredom!

You can find it on Amazon.

9. Single All the Way (2021)

For a cute LGBTQ+ holiday romance, this romantic comedy follows the story of Peter, who convinces his best friend Nick to join him for the holidays at home. Peter’s family makes every effort to help them realize that beneath their beautiful friendship, a genuine romance might be waiting to bloom. And in what better place to do so than under the mistletoe?

Available on Netflix.

10. Last Christmas (2019)

This beautiful mix of heart and humor is the perfect love story between an elf for a yearlong Christmas shop (Emilia Clarke) and Tom (the handsome Henry Golding) who mysteriously enters Kate’s life to change it for the better.

Available on Amazon.

Now with this selection, all you have to do is brew a hot chocolate, slip into your comfiest PJs, grab a cozy blanket, and hit play to speed up this merry little countdown!
