It’s Time To Celebrate With Your BFFs

Did you know there’s a special holiday dedicated to commemorating the amazing female friendships in your life? That’s right- February 13th is Galentine’s Day, a time to focus on your girlfriends and celebrate these special sisterly connections.

This particular date may appeal to singles, who may not honor the amorous February 14th. Instead, our attention is brought to the strong platonic bonds we have with our soul sisters who mean so much to us.

Where Did It Originate?

The gal pal holiday has its roots in the American television series, Parks and Recreation. In Season 2 Episode 16, entitled “Galentine’s Day”, Leslie Knope hosts a breakfast-style brunch for her girlfriends. They are then seen supporting and celebrating each other for the rest of the day.

In the iconic 2010 episode, Leslie explained how she celebrates the special time, “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.”

Ever since the public first viewed the sisterhood holiday in the sitcom, steam picked up and predictably spread throughout the country for enthusiastic ladies to excitingly celebrate with their girlfriends. Nowadays, you can find Galentine-themed presents and holiday cards to gift your lovely ladies.

During the episode, Leslie handed each of her girlfriends several questionable yet thoughtful gifts, one of which included a mosaic portrait created with mashed bottle parts of their most loved diet soda…

Now, your gifts don’t have to be as arduous or personalized as hers, but consider feel-good, cute, and/or humorous presents for your favorite girls! These are just a couple of options:
