Nestled in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv is the first boutique of Guzema Fine Jewelry, which opened in 2017. Founded by Valeria Guzema and Mariana Lenha, this woman-owned business has since risen high in the fine jewelry sector, winning awards such as “Best Start-Up” from the Elle Style Awards.
Guzema sells everything from necklaces, bracelets, and rings, to brooches, and earrings. All the brand’s pieces are minimalistic, but extraordinarily well crafted in white and yellow gold. While in Ukraine, Guzema sells 14k gold, the United States market will feature 18k gold pieces.
One of Guzema’s signature jewelry pieces is what they call their “transformer.” A “transformer” is a piece where the chain can move to fit different sizes or styles depending on your mood. With Guzema’s minimalistic design, you can change the length of the chain on a necklace, choker, ring, or bracelet to create just the right style you want. “[The] DNA for the brand is being you, being yourself, feel[ing] special,” said Mariana Lenha. “We believe the jewelry emphasizes that.”
Each Guzema collection has its own story. The “Light My Fire!” collection features several pieces with gold fire extinguishers, light bulbs, and matches. Valeria Guzema took inspiration from an unfortunate fire that occurred in her showroom, which destroyed the shop and wasn’t able to reopen until last October. Guzema has also recently launched a men’s jewelry collection, which ranges in style with dog tags, small charms, and silk cords.
Guzema also has her charity, called the Guzema Foundation. Created to help children with heart problems, 100% of the proceeds from the brand’s “Charity Chain” collection have funded over 70 heart surgeries. More recently, Guzema started donating proceeds to help soldiers in Ukraine’s war with Russia with the “Freedom Collection.” Several pieces feature blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
