Backstage at PatBo’s New York Fashion Week show on Saturday, Septembr 9, you could feel everything from pride, to passion, and to anticipation as various teams worked tirelessly to create a beautiful Spring 2024 collection. The collection, entitled “Tropicalia,” is designer Patrica Bonaldi’s embodiment of Brazilian culture and beauty.
“I’m celebrating Brazil’s culture. Everything’s about the handmade that we do in my hometown in Brazil,” she said.
The show’s makeup and skincare were sponsored by Bruna Tavares and Simple Organic. With Tavares’ values centering around Brazilian beauty and innovation, and Simple Organic’s around being natural, vegan, and cruelty-free, the two teams combined left models looking soft yet fierce.
Gina Edwards was the lead manicurist for the show, and she found touching inspiration in Bonaldi’s own school in Brazil, Costurando Sonhos. The nail looks featured tasteful placing of lace detailing and glazed donut aesthetics. “[The nails] are really inspired by Patricia’s love of the school that she has in Brazil. There are students there doing embroidery work for some fabrics, and she wanted to showcase and highlight those students in every way onto the nail, and that’s what we did,” said Edwards.
The hair was similarly inspired by Bonaldi’s love of Brazil, with styles encapsulating an effortless and sensual Brazilian woman. The stylists brought the “Tropicalia” movement to life with a new vision of beauty.
Models were also adorned with sponsor Ardell’s lashes, the partnership being perfectly in line with the beauty company’s vision of what it means to be an “Ardell girl.”
“[An Ardell girl is] fun, she’s spunky, with little sprinkles of embellishments. Just [a] down-to-earth, cool girl, but likes a little sparkle,” said Ardell Beauty Global Ambassador Jade Munson.
