Covering NYFW: New York Men’s Day

On February 6, 2025, New York Men’s Day (NYMD) unveiled its Fall/Winter 2025 collections, spotlighting a dynamic mix of returning talents and fresh faces in the menswear and genderless fashion. Held at Location05 near Hudson Yards, the event featured six designers: A.Potts and Sivan made their anticipated returns. In contrast, newcomers Hold NYC, Joseph McRae, Max Esmail, and Peak Lapel debuted their innovative collections. I attend the evening show, with Joseph McRae, Max Esmail, and Peak Lapel.

The newcomers brought fresh perspectives to the NYMD stage:

Joseph McRae

This designer introduced tailored pieces that juxtaposed classic silhouettes with modern fabrics, reflecting a refined yet progressive approach to menswear. When I asked him about his brand, he was very energetic. His response was, “Our mission is to blur the lines of masculinity and femininity, to create a safe space for creativity and expression… Joseph Mcrae is about being you, unapologetically.” His collection brought together prominent silhouettes and bold colors to express what it means to be human.

Max Esmail

Max Esmail showcased designs emphasizing minimalism and sustainability, highlighting the importance of eco-conscious fashion in today’s industry. I asked Max about a word he would use to describe this collection, and he immediately responded with “Timeless… all of these pieces could be worn anywhere.” The music in the room perfectly matched the aesthetic of the clothing.

Peak Lapel

Peak Lapel debuted a line that reimagined traditional menswear staples, infusing them with bold patterns and unexpected textures. Their exhibit at NYMD was flawless—the live jazz band, the models in character, and the emphasis on experience—it was all so well done. The designers, Jack and Brenna, and co-founder Ben spoke to me about how they wanted to “bring life back to menswear, whereas typically it can be dull and lifeless.”

These collections were a perfect way to kick off the NYFW festivities, and I cannot wait to see what else these designers have in store.
