Art Basel Miami Beach 2023 is returning for its 21st edition from December 8 until December 10. This international contemporary art fair allows thousands of art dealers, artists, and collectors to experience modern and contemporary art from 277 galleries. One of only four Art Basel fairs in the world, this event, which is held at the Miami Beach Convention Center during Miami Art Week, should not be missed! Here’s everything you need to know about Art Basel 2023.
What is Art Basel?
Art Basel is said to be one of North America’s most comprehensive contemporary art fairs. The Miami Beach Convention Center, where Art Basel will be held, is going to be divided into the following sections:
Galleries: The main area of the convention center, the galleries section will feature top galleries that show major works in all mediums.
Positions: This section will feature 16 emerging international artists and their works.
Nova: This section will host 22 presentations from 22 galleries.
Survey: 16 galleries will present work that has been created before the year 2000.
Meridians: This is a section curated by art critic and director of Mexico City’s Museo Tamayo, Magalí Arriola.
Kabinett: This section will feature curated selections from galleries in a separate section from their booth.
Who is at Art Basel?
Art Basel 2023 will feature 277 art galleries from all over the world. 33 countries and territories will be represented by these galleries, with nearly two-thirds of them being from North and South America. 24 galleries will be newcomers to Art Basel, including galleries from Egypt, Iceland, the Philippines, and Poland.
What else is happening during Art Week?
Art Basel, though one of the largest events during Miami Art Week, is not the only thing happening! Another must-see that should definitely be checked out is SCOPE Miami Beach 2023. SCOPE Miami Beach, an art show featuring emerging and contemporary art, is returning for its 22nd edition. This art show will have over 150 exhibitors along with some large-scale installations. SCOPE Miami Beach will have three sectors: Futures, photo basel + SCOPE, and core.
