In the bridal fashion world, standing out requires innovation, a keen eye for design, and the courage to fill a niche. La Chenille Bridal Bikini, a brand dedicated to luxurious bridal swimwear, embodies all these qualities. We sat down with the founder of La Chenille Bridal Bikini, Demi Raquel Thomas, to explore the origins of this unique brand and the creative inspiration behind its exquisite collections.
How did the brand begin?
La Chenille Bridal Bikini was born out of a clear vision and an identified need in the bridal space. “I noticed that there was a gap in the bridal market for brides looking to wear luxurious swimwear,” Demi explains. “With my vast experience as an accessories designer, I knew that this was a space where I could create something truly unique. “This realization was the spark that ignited the creation of La Chenille Bridal Bikini.
Why Bridal Swimwear?
The concept of bridal swimwear addresses a growing trend among modern brides, particularly those with destination weddings or bachelorette parties. “Brides have been slowly switching to wearing an entire bridal wardrobe for years,” Demi says. With the trend of donning multiple bridal looks throughout the engagement, from celebratory engagement parties to bachelorette weekends, the need for multiple bridal-esque looks has been rising. Demi wanted to offer swimwear that brides could wear on their wedding day and on these other occasions – bachelorette parties, bridal showers, or honeymoons. “I wanted to create swimwear looks that felt more special than grabbing any white swimsuit off a rack,” she says. Each piece in the collection is handmade with fine fabrics, intricate stitching, and beading, elevating them to couture status.
At XOXO, we love the bridal cover-ups. They’re so sophisticated but also sexy. Tell us about the design process for these.
La Chenille Bridal Bikini’s cover-ups and trains are a testament to sophisticated yet sexy bridal fashion. A variety of factors influence the founder’s designs. “[I’m inspired by] a combination of things but my emphasis is on the design aesthetics regarding textiles and textures, shapes and silhouettes,” she explains. Inspiration can come from nature, architecture, music, and various types of history. Her current collection, “A Timeless Dream,” is inspired by the Hollywood Golden Era. “The glamorous fashions from the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s with a touch of contemporary significance,” she says, highlighting how the past continues to influence her modern creations.
Do you have any advice for young designers thinking about starting their brand?
“Remember the fashion business is still a business so therefore surround yourself with a good support team,” Demi advises. Clarity of vision and direction is crucial. “Have a clear picture and voice to where you want to go and what you want to do in the industry,” she emphasises. Most importantly, she encourages young designers to take risks and stay true to themselves. “Be original and authentic because the world is always looking for something new and exciting!”
With a focus on luxury, craftsmanship, and unique design, the founder has created a brand that addresses a specific need and elevates bridal swimwear to an art form. For any 2024 and beyond brides, visit https://lachenillebridalbikini.com/.
