From Thursday, April 18, to Sunday, April 21, KIL Promotions’ NYC Jewelry and Object Show was held in the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan, New York City. Bringing jewelry dealers, collectors, and vendors all together in one space, this exclusive show features jewelry and object enthusiasts from many diverse places and many different backgrounds. Here are some of the brands that were showcased at the NYC Jewelry and Object Show.

Oscura Luz

Oscura Luz

Oscura Luz, meaning “dark light” in Spanish, was founded by Jen Proudman. She was inspired by her travel adventures to create her jewelry and home accessory brand. Proudman explains, “You can’t see the stars if not for the dark sky. My tagline is called, ‘Celebrate Duality.’ Oscura Luz sells both jewelry pieces and vases that match the jewelry.

Proudman’s newest collection “Sol,” or “Sunshine” in Spanish, features a blend of turquoise, pyrite, and moonstone together. Proudman also has a collection inspired by her travels in Bali called “Bali Drop.”

“[My] wood choker was sourced from Bali,” she said. “I used to spend a lot of time in Bali, which is where a lot of my carvings come from.” You can check out more from Oscura Luz here.

Founder and jewelry designer Anne Baker originally started her business by simply making modernized pearl pieces for her friends and family. “As I got more familiar with the jewelry role, the pieces became more involved with less pearls and more diamonds and colored gemstones,” Baker said. “The brand has just grown piece by piece.”

After winning an award for one of her rings at the Cultured Pearl Association of America’s (CPAA) International Pearl Design Competition in 2020, Baker began transitioning from pearls to diamonds. “I like to have a lot of interplay and versatility with my pieces,” she said. To do this, her pieces include bails that can be added to different kinds of jewelry wear. “[It’s] important that jewelry is fun and flattering and just enhances anything that you’re wearing,” Baker said. Gigi Ferranti

Gigi Ferranti

Gina (Gigi) Ferranti was a former stylist before expanding her experience into the jewelry business. “My jewelry is very architectural inspired,” Ferranti said. “It’s bold. It’s day-to-night pieces.” One of Ferranti’s priorities when it comes to creating her pieces is using fine-quality diamonds and gemstones. A certified gemologist, she understands what qualities are in the highest quality stones.

Ferranti is mainly inspired by the architecture of whatever place she’s traveling. Drawing from her Italian heritage, she has a collection inspired by Portofino, Italy. She also has several pieces that are universal to her brand. “I am known for my stacking rings,” Ferranti said. “All the collections pretty much mix and mingle with each other. You can pick things and wear them together.” You can check out Gigi Ferranti here.

K8 Jewelry

Canadian gemologist, goldsmith, jeweler, and designer Kate Hubley designs and makes all of her pieces at her brand K8 Jewelry. “The way that I describe my work is ‘edgy elegance,'” Hubley said. “I want to stay sophisticated and elevated, but I like a bit of rebellion in my design.”

Every collection that Hubley creates has a story behind it. For example, her Precious Time collection was made while she was going through a tough time in her life. The pendulum motif is representative of the ups and downs of life, while its stillness represents the calm that can happen amid chaos. “There’s that notion of fearlessness in a woman who’s ready to come out and conquer the world and do what she needs to do in this life,” Hubley said.
