My Morning Skincare routine for Eczema and Sensitive Skin

Eczema Evening
Eczema Evening

After extensive research, experimentation, and dermatologists’ recommendations, I have come up with a special skincare routine and a list of top products for people with sensitive, atopic, or eczema-prone skin. These products are great for those who often have skin problems or can’t finding products that suit their skin. They are fragrance-free, organic, contain natural ingredients, or have minimal additives. This already makes a difference.

The majority of the products I will be presenting are French and usually sold in ‘pharmacies’. This is because Europe, and notably France, has developed products specifically tailored to address skin issues. In the United States, for example, only 10% of the population is affected by eczema, as reported by the National Eczema Association. In contrast, a staggering 88% of the French population believes they have experienced a skin condition, 34% of which specifically identifies eczema, according to research conducted by Sanofi laboratories. These statistics highlight the prevalence of skin issues in France and as a result drives the availability of a wide range of high-quality products designed to combat them.

So, what is Eczema? Eczema is a skin condition that causes dry and itchy patches of skin. Symptoms may worsen upon contact with irritants or allergens. While it isn’t contagious, it unfortunately has no cure. However, there are treatments that can help reduce, regulate, or relieve it. I’ll be incorporating them into this morning skincare routine.

To start your day, dermatologists recommend either rinsing your face with Clear Water or :

La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water: This product is essentially clear water in a spray form that gently awakens your skin. It has a soothing effect thanks to its mineral salts and antioxidant properties, which can aid in softening the skin. It’s a gentle way to start your day with a refreshing feeling, without the shock of cold tap water.

The entire La Roche-Posay brand is excellent for sensitive skin, and they even have a line called Lipikar Eczema Med specifically designed for eczema. This line includes creams, cleansing oil, anti-itch balm, and more, so don’t hesitate to check it out

Next, for a radiant complexion, consider incorporating Vitamin C into your routine! Vitamin C revitalizes the skin and gives it a healthy glow. It helps protect the skin from free radicals, redness, dryness, or hyperpigmentation. Additionally, vitamin C is essential for boosting collagen production, which helps maintain skin elasticity. In simple terms, vitamin C fights harmful toxins, brightens your skin, and keeps it well-hydrated.

Consider using Eczema Honey’s Vitamin C Serum, part of their skincare line is specially crafted for eczema and sensitive skin. Eczema Honey stands out with its signature ingredients, honey and oat extract, which are known for their soothing and calming properties. They are particularly effective for addressing redness, irritation, and eczema. I highly recommend exploring their entire line of products.

Now, you’ll need a Moisturizer. I have three possibilities for you: one for sensitive skin and two for eczema-prone skin.

First up, we have Avène Thermal Spring Water Cicalfate Cream. Avène is one of my favorite brands due to its gentle ingredients. The brand is dedicated to advancing dermatological knowledge and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with sensitive skin. It also extends its commitment to oncology. This cream is even recommended for infants or individuals undergoing cancer treatment. The cream is specially designed to prevent and heal irritations and redness by forming a protective barrier on the skin’s surface. It’s non-greasy, absorbs well, and provides soothing relief.

For Eczema we have:

Avène’s XeraCalm AD Lipid-Replenishing Balm. This is part of Avène’s specific eczema line. It’s fragrance-free, nourishes dry skin, and soothes itching sensations. It’s suitable for dehydrated, atopic-prone skin and skin prone to itching. The texture is pleasant, easy to apply, and fast absorbing without leaving a greasy residue.

Bioderma Intensive Balm. Bioderma is another excellent brand for those with skin issues. This intensely anti-itch and repairing treatment is dermatologist-prescribed and approved by the French Eczema Association. It restores, replenishes, and soothes the skin, making it more resilient. It’s non-sticky, has a rich yet non-greasy texture, is fragrance-free, and offers comfort.

Finally, Sunscreen is essential. It protects your skin’s appearance and health, preventing sunburn, skin cancer, and premature aging. You can choose from the brands mentioned above, but I recommend:

Trader Joe’s Broad Spectrum Zinc Oxide Mineral SPF 30: This sunscreen pleasantly surprised me. It’s white but doesn’t leave a ghostly appearance, hydrates without feeling sticky, and is incredibly lightweight on the skin. It’s hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, water-resistant, and offers UVA and UVB protection.

Trader Joe

In my opinion, Trader Joe’s cosmetics line doesn’t receive the recognition it deserves. They prioritize local and natural ingredients and keep additives to a minimum, which is highly beneficial for sensitive skin. I recommend giving Trader Joe’s products a try, as I absolutely adore this sunscreen, and my skin does too!

I hope these recommendations and products help you create a skincare routine that suits your specific skin needs. Remember, every skin is unique, so results may vary, but I believe these brands offer the best chance of finding what works best for you.

In the meantime, if you’d like to explore my favorite products for a nighttime skincare routine, you can find them here!

XOXO,
