On February 9, designer Tia Adeola paid homage to her Nigerian roots in her FW25 collection. Here’s how the show was put together backstage.
Makeup
Led by XOXO’s very own T. Cooper, this season’s makeup theme was “high glam.” This look featured a dimensional eye, using three shades, a cat eye, and lashes, highlighter, blush, lip liner, gloss, and more. “This is not for the girl that doesn’t like makeup,” T. said. “This is a beat!”
T. has worked with Adeola before, so this is a full-circle moment for them both. “It’s bringing tears to my eyes,” T. said. “We worked on her senior project when she graduated from fashion school. I’m just humbled that she trusts us.”
T. was sponsored by WYN Beauty, the makeup brand tennis champion Serena Williams created. “WYN has been incredible,” T. said. “They’ve been so accommodating. I’m really surprised by the performance of the makeup.”
WYN is a baby beauty brand, only recently launching in April 2024. The brand’s specialty is high performance makeup, or “makeup made to move in.” Their products are long-wear, super pigmented, and easy to apply, but they will last the entire day no matter what. Their newest products are their lip liners and lip glosses. “T.’s team is phenomenal,” said Derin, WYN’s Director of Brand and Creative. “It’s just been a really collaborative effort. We brought Tia’s inspiration to life and she loved it.”
Nails
This season’s nails were done by Yukie Natori Salon and Spa, led by nail artist Misa Matsumura. Several nail looks featured animal prints, including zebra and leopard prints, with a sharp stiletto shape, giving a modern and urban aesthetic. “[Tia] likes a very powerful, feminine look,” Misa said. “But I need an edge as well. That’s why I put some gold and silver.”
Misa also added some snake patterned nails, a nod to this lunar year being the Year of the Snake. All of the nails were hand-painted using Kokoist products, a Japanese nail polish brand.
