NYFW Glam: Modern Edwardian Dolls at Victor de Souza

It’s Fashion Week in New York City, and amidst the flashing cameras and fluttering excitement, backstage is where the real magic is made. You all know that besides being the Beauty Editor for this incredible magazine, I am also a working Makeup Artist and owner of the beauty and grooming company, Major Face. I was summoned to key the makeup for the Victor de Souza runway show at Terminal 5, and my team and I were thrilled to hop on board.

New York Fashion Week knows how to bring the drama, and my team and I understood the assignment. Victor’s highly anticipated runway show featured couture pieces to die for, so the makeup look had to be audacious enough to do the collection justice. After discussing with Victor, he conveyed that he wanted to transform the models into Gen Z, Edwardian dolls. This was our interpretation of a modern-day New York girl/Edwardian girl mashup.

The focal point of the makeup look was the eyebrows, or should I say lack thereof. Having a blocked brow was important to Victor because he says it had always been a vision of his. According to de Souza, “I tried to do covered eyebrows a couple of seasons ago, with another Makeup Artist, but it just wasn’t working. I didn’t know if it was possible.” We achieved a solid brow block by layering a glue stick with Pacifica Dreamlit Glow concealer. After we achieved our desired coverage, we cleaned up the edges with Pacifica Moisture Rehab Rose & Coconut wipes, to avoid lumpy texture around the brows. Victor said our team being able to conceal his models’ brows successfully made his “dream come true”. I’m glad my team was able to make him happy.

Next, we prepped the skin with Pacifica Glow Baby serum for hydration and brightening. Then we applied full coverage foundation over the entire face, including the brows, to create an even tone. At this point, you see the brow completely disappear. We set the foundation with powder and added a bit of blush on the apples of the cheeks.

The look was undoubtedly heightened by placing a feather above the models natural creases. Our intention was for the meticulously crafted feather-adorned eyes to mimic the appearance of floating eyeliner. Continuing to amplify the eye makeup even further, we added false eyelashes on the lower lash line for drama. We completed the look with a nude lip, and by setting the makeup with Pacifica Vegan Collagen Hydrating Setting Mist

As the models strutted down the runway in de Souza’s structured, gothic-inspired statement pieces, our team was so proud to have turned his fanciful idea into a whimsical reality. Are you feeling the fantasy, besties?

XOXO,

Your Fashion Bestie
