New York Fashion Week is here! Taking place in the Big Apple from Friday, February 9 to Wednesday, February 14, Fashion Week will include more than 70 confirmed designers who will present their newest Fall/Winter ready-to-wear collections. While there are some staple names in this year’s lineup, let’s not forget to welcome the upcoming designers. Here’s our list of designers to watch this season.
Câllas
Making a first appearance in the official New York Fashion Week schedule, Câllas will make their Fashion Week debut along with their new creative director, Derek Lam. The Italian brand was founded in 2020 by Marco Panzeri and Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann to create the ultimate luxury wardrobe for the modern woman.
Câllas’ pieces are chic and practical, from the right pair of trousers to classic trench coats. The brand is developed in a factory owned by Panzeri and his family in Soncino, which is about an hour away from Milan. This way, Câllas’ pieces are patterned, cut, and sewn in one place and crafted by a group of skilled artisans with high production capabilities.
The brand will present its Fall/Winter collection on Saturday, February 10 at 10 am. More information on Câllas can be found here.
Melitta Baumeister
Returning to New York Fashion Week for the second time after her debut in September 2023, founder and designer Melitta Baumeister is coming back with a title: the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner. Earning herself $300,000 and mentorship among experts within the fashion industry, Baumeister is a German designer based in New York City.
Created after Baumeister graduated from the Parsons School of Design, the designer is known for using innovative materials and creating unique silhouettes. Her work has been worn by the likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga, and now with her new award, perhaps many more!
Melitta Baumeister will digitally present her newest collection on Tuesday, February 13 at 3 pm. You can learn more about the brand here.
Jane Wade
Another new addition to the official New York Fashion Week schedule, Jane Wade is a thoughtfully designed womenswear brand that bridges the gap between workwear and office attire. Based in New York City, designer Wade carefully constructs garments in a way that shows both luxury and multi-functionalism.
Jane Wade’s most recent collection was the Spring/Summer collection entitled, The Commute. This collection played with the idea of office wear and corporate identity to create over-the-top and exaggerated versions of the stereotypical work wear.
Jane Wade will present her Fall/Winter collection on the runway on Monday, February 12 at 5 pm. More information on the brand can be found here.
Kim Shui
A finalist for the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the founder and designer of her brand Kim Shui is already seeing her creations featured by celebrities such as Saweetie or Karina from the K-pop group Aespa. Based in New York City, the Chinese-American designer pays homage to her heritage through her designs.
From using mandarin collars to elevating the qipao, Shui makes her clothes flatter the wearer in the best way possible. Inclusivity is also of utmost importance, therefore her garments are made to be both racially and body diverse.
Kim Shui will be having their runway show on Friday, February 9 at 7 pm. You can learn more about the brand here.
ZANKOV
The runner-up for the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, founder and designer Henry Zankov received a $100,000 grant for his brand, ZANKOV. Created in 2019, the brand takes a special interest in fabrics and textiles, using materials that are made from natural fibers and combined with luxurious materials such as alpaca or merino wool.
Another key element of ZANKOV’s garments is the color and pattern. The genderless pieces add another level of freshness that brightens up and elevates a look from something to something.
ZANKOV will be having their presentation for Fall/Winter on Monday, February 12 at 11am. You can find more information about the brand here.
Tanner Fletcher
Another CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, Tanner Fletcher was founded by Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell. The fluid, genderless brand specializes in modernizing the vintage, bringing in a new wave of fashion that is both timeless and trendy.
Tanner Fletcher’s most recent collection was during September’s New York Fashion Week and inspired by beauty pageants, an iconic event in American history. Pushing the boundary when it comes to gender labels, the diverse group of models strutted the catwalk wearing pieces ranging in size, shape, and length.
Tanner Fletcher will be presenting their Fall/Winter collection by appointment on Tuesday, February 13. Check out our coverage of their Spring/Summer show here.
