Richie Rich x Care Bears

Richie Rich is a renowned club kid who has channeled his creative savviness to fashion design. From 1999-2008, Richie co-founded the fashion company Heatherette. Chiefly infamous for their shocking designs, the brand maintained close relations with stars like Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson. With attention to celebrities, the 2000s brought Heatherette a reputation of being the “most fun NYFW show.” In a full circle moment at NYFW, Richie Rich celebrated his 20th anniversary of Heatherette’s collaboration with Care Bears. The highly anticipated show occurred on February 7th at Dom Lounge in Flatiron. As in past shows, Richie had celebrities Ja Rule, Max Alexander, and Kate Lanphear seated in the front row.

The collection had no shortage of vibrant colors and adorable fuzzy teddy bears. Every model held a Care Bear as an accessory, or sported a Care Bear sewn into the fabric. Corresponding with the theme, there were Care Bear t-shirts, bucket hats, slippers, and ear muffs, all with a unique and playful spin. Some pieces, like the bikini top with two Care Bears sewn onto the breasts, were reminiscent of Richie Rich’s ties to nightlife. Alternatively, other looks demonstrated a street wear aesthetic. One look featured baggy Care Bear jeans paired with an oversized sweater and a cuffless beanie. For the Care Bears concept, their slogan “Born to sparkle and shine” was printed on a t-shirt as the sentiment echoed throughout the collection.

Earmuffs with two Care Bears sewn onto the sides were a standout, making the cutest winter accessory. In addition, a dramatic pink sleeve jacket floated down the runway. To end the show, there was a sense of positivity and serious nostalgia for childhood comfort and joy.
