Patrick Cupid launched his eponymous line in 2019. The New York City-based luxury fashion brand specializes in women’s ready-to-wear designs with a focus on sustainably made clothing.

Patrick makes painstaking efforts to be responsible at every step of the design process. He sets out to create as little waste as possible, centering around natural fibers and fabrics and getting his wools and silks from local sources. Forming relationships with family-owned local businesses is a key aspect of his design process.

Patrick’s designs are all about art and the women he dresses. He values the beauty of every type of woman and makes clothes that bring out their fiery independence.

“The women that I enjoy dressing and enjoy working with are these very independent, self-motivated, autonomous thinkers that can very much revel in being a woman. That means the femininity [and] all the possibilities and power that comes with that.

“It’s never about being popular or what anybody else thinks. It’s good because you feel good in it, because you like it, because it appeals to you, whether you’re a mom or CEO or a socialite or party girl. Whatever, whoever you are, whatever you are, you like to have fun. You like to go out; you like to be flirty and feminine and everything else. But, you know, you also might sit on the stoop and listen to some music or smoke a bowl if this is who she is.

“It’s not really ever about one particular thing, you know. But sort of always focusing on that mentality, on that energy, on that attitude, which really comes at any age,” Patrick said.

Patrick’s newest collection for Spring/Summer 2024 is called Diurnal, which, as opposed to “nocturnal,” means things that come out during the daytime. This collection was inspired by the 1960s, when rapid cultural shifts heavily influenced changes in women’s fashion. Aside from the actual style of the era, Patrick found inspiration in the way women began advocating for their independence.

“It was also a period where women came out and were saying no, I want my own credit cards. I don’t want to be married. I want a job. Yes, I’m a sexual being, and I want to do that, and I feel like wearing pants…I don’t want to be beholden to a husband, brother, or father, and I have a voice. I want my own rights. I want equal pay. I want all of these different things,” Patrick said.

Diurnal continues the story of Patrick’s previous collections with loud colors inspired by the beauty of nature and luxurious, sustainable materials made for women who want to take up space. A woman wearing Patrick Cupid is fierce, feminine, and strong, which includes women of all sizes and ages.

XOXO,
