Don’t you love it when you know that you have a one- of- a- kind piece of clothing or accessory, that no one else does?
This is why fashion designer and founder Erin Beatty decided to create Rentrayage, and start her fashion empire. She decided not only to base it in Brooklyn, New York, but to have all pieces made by hand, so there are never two that are identical.
Inspired by Louise Bourgeois, ”Rentrayage” is a French word that means, “to mend” and to “make whole again“. The company brings old clothes, vintage fabrics, and dead- stock back to life.
According to the designer, sustainability is one of their core values, but it’s more than that. Creating pieces by hand, or creating limited collections, bring back meaning and value to the pieces that are worn.
These days, fashion is so easily discarded, from one trend to the next, as social media lets us know when and what to where, and for how long.
Rentrayage believes that pieces you love and hold dear remain eternal, and should be kept safe, loved, and treasured.
The fashion house also offers stunning home and beauty products in their curated catalog, which can give your home a feeling that you, as a consumer, have contributed to less waste, and also own pieces no one else can boast about.
On Rentrayage’s main page you can find an entire section that is devoted exclusively to their sustainability practices and activism, claiming that fashion is an incredibly wasteful industry, but it doesn’t need to be. The fashion hosts also claims that they partner only with brands that upcycle, recycle, and use regenerative materials, just like Rentrayage.
Coming September 11th to New York Fashion Week (9AM, don’t be late!), Rentrayage is proud to bring her collection to a world wide stage. Be sure to follow their Instagram for the updates, too!
