In the midst of New York Fashion Week, Zero Waste Daniel stole the spotlight with a one-night-only drag show. Mixing fashion and performance art for Spring/Summer 2026, drag legends stormed the runway in upcycled couture while lip-syncing and modeling.
Spotted: Drag Icons on the Catwalk
Hosted by Kiki Ball-Change and Selma Nilla, the show featured some of drag’s most iconic talents. Self-proclaimed “theater queen” and Drag Race alum Plasma paid homage to star Bernadette Peters on a set of House of Xtravaganza. Jasmine Rice LeBeija performed a live rendition of Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye.” Dancer and content creator Alex Wong, model Dawn Gallagher, Tony Award winner J. Harrison Ghee, and other notable figures sat with jaws dropped in the audience.

Winners of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Raja Gemini and Yvie Oddly, stunned in sustainable couture, with Yvie wearing a 20-foot train sewn from a former hot air balloon. Setting the tone for the evening was DJ Lady Bunny, who livened up the crowd with the opening soundtrack. Other stars included King of Drag winner King Molasses, Julie J, Essa Noche, Dawn, Hanukah Lewinsky, Chelsea Piers, and Kizha Carr.

Inspiration Behind the Collection
Crafted in conversations with the performers, the collection draws inspiration from the story, The Harlequin Boy. A childhood story read to him by his parents, this collection is one close to creative director Daniel Silverstein’s heart. In the tale, a clever Venetian boy, without a costume, pieces together scraps from others’ outfits. By the end, he creates a patchwork look that dazzles them all. Each look brings the vision to life, from handmade signature fabrics to the big New York stage.

Founder and creative director Daniel Silverstein shares more on drag and fashion: “Drag has always shown me what joy in the face of adversity looks like. The performers on this stage — Raja, Yvie, Bunny, House of Xtravaganza, Julie J, Plasma, Jasmine, and so many more — are not simply my muses and friends. They are leaders and visionaries who shape culture long before it ever reaches a runway. This collection is about honoring them, about celebrating the brilliance they bring to every room, every stage, every look. Sustainable Fashion is a Drag exists because of their artistry, a reminder that queer art, humor, and beauty are how we endure, how we thrive, and how we keep moving forward.”
