What I Keep In My Travel Makeup Bag

Whether I’m hopping on an airplane to a different continent or simply traveling south to enjoy the delicious warm sun, I take my handy makeup bag with me. I’m enamored with my adorable My Melody-themed bag that I bought on AliExpress, it keeps all my essential items for my adventures. You can find many lovely and versatile makeup bags on places like Amazon or Ulta. However, you don’t need to spend money on a brand-new one. Ziploc bags from the dollar store can do the job too (especially when carrying liquid items through TSA).

When traveling, I pack light, so I choose my favorite products that I’ll be using daily. If I’m going to a tropical area or an aquatic space, I’ll make sure to pack waterproof makeup. If you want to know more about what you can put in your makeup bag, continue reading.

Sunscreen

The Australian Gold Botanical Tinted Face Mineral Lotion – a beautiful combination of BB cream and sun protection. Its ability to serve two purposes makes the need for a foundation unnecessary. I enjoy this sunscreen as it evens out my skin tone and acts as a decent base for my makeup.

Keep in mind, if you’re traveling by plane, this would be considered a liquid so it would have to be stored in a separate transparent bag to go through TSA. A quart-sized Ziploc bag can do the trick!

Eyebrow Gel

Many love the look of shaped brows, and I’m no exception. Usually, I do mine with a spooly and dark eyeshadow, but when it comes to traveling, not everyone likes carrying eyeshadow palettes. Instead, I would recommend using a tinted eyebrow gel, and Gimme Brow by Benefit Cosmetics is a great option. A quick comb-through with the wand fills in and thickens your eyebrows in no time.

Concealer

One of my absolute makeup necessities is concealer. I opt for one that is about two shades lighter than my skin tone for the undereye area. I love how it brightens up my complexion. One I’ve been using for a while is the NYX HD Studio Photogenic Concealer. It’s lightweight and buildable, and I also double it as an eyeshadow primer. Concealers are often small and conveniently packaged, and there isn’t too much of a fuss about them- choose your favorite one, and you’re good to go!

Eyeshadow

I’m a sucker for pigmented eyes, so I usually bring some form of mini eyeshadow palette with me. Although, the extra bulk may not be appealing to some individuals. However, if you still want that pop of color, try bringing along single eyeshadow pans that won’t take up much space. Ideally, you want to pick colors that will combine nicely with most of your outfits. If you’re having trouble picking shades, neutrals like brown and black work perfectly with various looks.

Makeup Brushes

If I’m taking eyeshadows, I have to bring a select few important makeup brushes. These include a fluffy brush, a blending brush, and a packing brush. I also take a small angled brush to clean and shape my eyebrows using concealer. Plus, a large coverage flat brush is necessary to set my concealer so it doesn’t crease later in the day.

Eyeliner

Let’s be honest, a lot of us consider eyeliner a must-have when traveling. Just a few swipes of these alone can change your look! I enjoy bringing a few options since they don’t take up that much space. The Wet n Wild Mage Last Break-up Proof Eyeliner is a good liquid pencil option and is decently water-resistant. I like using The No Budge Retractable Eyeliner by e.l.f is one I enjoy for my water line.

Mascara

I love the extra length and thickness the Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara gives me. It costs only $4.99 and is one of the reasons why it’s my current favorite. Although, I truly think there are so many options that can work, so bring your favorite that works the best for you!

Nevertheless, you want waterproof mascara if you plan to swim in the ocean or relax in your hotel pool. According to Amazon reviews, the Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Waterproof Mascara Makeup is a great choice and only costs $6.64 – you’re not breaking the bank with this one!

Lipstick

If I had to pick one lip product to take with me, it would be the Maybelline Color Sensation Lipstick in the color Born With It. It’s a beautiful baby pink shade that works wonderfully with a myriad of outfits. I finish off with the NYX Filler Instinct Plumping Lip Polish in the color Major Mouthage, it adds a nice gloss and gives me a temporary yet cute pouty look.

Setting Powder

Creasing under the eyes can be so pesky, that’s why I make sure to pack some setting powder. I like the Hourglass Mini Veil Translucent Setting Powder in the color Veil. It’s super small, which makes it perfect for my travel kit, and yes, it works perfectly as intended.

Makeup Wipes

During travels, I find makeup wipes to be a crucial tool. On regular days, I double cleanse to remove all the day’s makeup and impurities. Although, bringing a whole bottle of oil with me would simply be inconvenient. Instead, bringing travel-size makeup wipes like the ones by Neutrogena makes the cleaning process easy and breezy. A few swipes are all it takes to get most of it out, which is why I love them for these occasions.

Going on a vacation is so exciting and, frankly, very needed to cool yourself off mentally and emotionally. However, you do want to plan to make sure you take all your necessary tools with you on your fun adventure. You don’t want to forget your waterproof makeup if you’re going to the beach, water park, or any other splash zone. Otherwise, it can get annoying dealing with smudging and dripping makeup. However, at the end of the day, it’s important to have fun when planning your travels and not stress yourself! We hope these tips and recommendations help you on your journey!
