Why You Should Carry a Pouch of Essentials In Your Purse

We all know the feeling. You are running around like a headless chicken in the morning trying to prepare yourself for the 9 hour day. Frantically, you shove a granola bar and water bottle into your purse and speed walk to catch the train. While trying to tune out someone with a Bluetooth speaker next to you, you search your bag for some headphones. Come to find out, you forgot them, along with five other things you were supposed to pack.

It’s been a goal of mine to alleviate the rushed and forgetful state of mind I get stuck in during the morning. One thing that has helped me? Having a pouch of essentials that I shift from purse to purse. No more trudging through the endless abyss of your bag hoping your lipstick is there. Everything is in this one pouch, and it’s already packed! With this new approach, I now have about an 80% success rate of remembering my lipstick (nobody’s perfect).

So, what kind of pouch do you keep in your purse? And what should you put in your bag of essentials? I’m here to give you the full rundown.

1. Picking the Pouch

The pouch does not have to be anything fancy (unless you want it to be). A simple toiletry bag or makeup bag will do the trick. You may already have one tucked away in a closet with the rest of your travel bags, so it is worth doing some digging. There are two things you need to consider: the size of your purse, and how much you want to fit in your pouch. For smaller purses, a flat pouch is ideal, while big purses can fit pouches that have more shape. The more you prefer to travel with, the bigger the size of the pouch.

After you have secured a pouch, it is time to decide what to put in it. Think about the times where you have thought to yourself “I wish I had (blank) right now.” If I were to fill in the mad libs with my wish, it would be a portable charger. My phone always seems to be dying, so always carrying a portable charger has been a game changer. To get some inspiration, here is a list of essentials that you can chose from to put in your pouch.
