In celebration of Women’s History Month, XOXO is shouting out all the women who are inspiring and empowering to us all, and one of the key ways we all empower and love ourselves is with makeup! That’s why it’s important to highlight all the beauty brands you need to try. Here are some women-owned beauty brands we recommend.
Tower 28
Named after a lifeguard tower in LA, Tower 28 was founded by Amy Liu, who has worked in the beauty industry for over 15 years. Her makeup and skincare products are made to be high-performance, irritant-free, nontoxic, and for all skin types while all of the brand’s packaging is sustainably made with at least 50% recycled plastic. This clean beauty brand recently launched their LipSoftie Lip Treatment and currently has a collaboration with the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 4 film.
You can shop Tower 28 on their website here or at Sephora here.
Glossier
Founded by Emily Weiss, Glossier has become one of the most iconic and successful beauty brands of the last decade. Originally a beauty website called Into the Gloss, Weiss decided to expand her blog into e-commerce and thus, Glossier was born. The brand sells a variety of products from skincare, to makeup, to fragrance, and to body care, all created to celebrate one’s own natural beauty. With only 4 products at first, Glossier has grown to be a multi-million dollar business with a plethora of clean beauty products!

Kosas
Launched in 2015 with just 4 lipsticks, Kosas founder Sheena Zadeh-Daly has come far! The makeup brand has since garnered a cult-following and for good reason. With easily applicable products and pigmented and unique colors, Kosas products have been clinically proven to improve your skin when you’re wearing it. Despite their high-performing formulas, the brand never sacrifices comfort, using only ingredients that are the gentlest, even for the most sensitive skin types.

Glow Recipe
Co-founders Sarah Lee and Christine Chang of Glow Recipe both worked at L’Oreal before banding together to start their own company. Inspired by Korean beauty, Glow Recipe uniquely formulates their skincare with antioxidant-rich fruit extracts. Placing a heavy emphasis on what goes into their product, the brand is clean, vegan, and cruelty-free while infusing bright packaging inspired by their fruity concoctions.
