An Evening at Bread and Stone

An Evening at Bread and Stone
An Evening at Bread and Stone

On Friday, December 1, the new Italian restaurant Bread and Stone provided us with a lovely evening filled with delicious pasta, tasty wines, and a warm atmosphere. Bread and Stone can be found at 308 E 6th Street in the East Village, in a vintage building that has been operating since the 1800s.

I started the meal with a glass of Chianti straight from the sommelier-selected wine list. I enjoyed the intimate and cozy ambiance, complete with holiday decorations and music from the house accordion player.

For appetizers, we enjoyed focaccia con marmellata and cesare di bruxelles. The warm, house-made focaccia bread was served with garlic confit, rosemary-toasted pistachio apricot jam, and herbed honey butter. The Caesar salad was also served warm, which was unexpected yet delicious. Warm-shaved Brussels sprouts were lightly sautéed with lemon, olive oil, and fresh herbs with pistachio, cranberries, and caramelized onion to create a pleasantly comforting winter salad.

For the main course, we ordered the penne assolute alla vodka (absolute penne ala vodka) and the manzo alla bolognese. All food is made in the restaurant’s kitchen, so all ingredients are homemade with care. The penne vodka included prosciutto (a personal favorite), red onion and black pepper, resulting in a creamy and dynamic sauce. Bread and Stone promises this will be the best vodka sauce you’ll ever have.

The manzo alla bolognese is a perfect comfort meal for chilly winter months. Tender slow-cooked beef with fresh herbs, garlic, wine, and spices was stirred together with onions and tomatoes and served over hand-made pappardelle pasta to create a truly unforgettable flavor. You can taste the love and warmth in Bread and Stone’s pasta.

We ended the night with the rosemary balsamic apple pie served with vanilla gelato and strawberry balsamic glaze. It is one of the more unique desserts I have tried; the uncommon flavor combination worked perfectly to elevate the classic apple pie.

We left Bread and Stone feeling full and happy, and we want our readers to experience this joy as well! By showing this article at the restaurant, you can get 10% off your bill.  We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.

XOXO,
